It is official! Dark Forest Press now has a quarterly zine. I’ve been tossing this idea around for quite a while, and I finally buckled down and got it out the door. And, now that it is live, I will be putting out a new issue every three months.
This first issue is just a taste of what’s to come. Inside you will find two short stories, one by myself(J.W. Donley) and another by Leslie Edens. Also included is a movie review from Leslie of the December 2025 film, Nosferatu, and a poem by the mysterious Alex D. The cover art is by the amazing P.L. McMillan and the interior art is by my good friend JT Paton.
Below is a peek at the table of contents for issue #1:

Future issues will have at least two new short stories by other writers from the horror/bizarro/weird genres as well as transgressive poetry and art, and a recurring movie review from Leslie Edens. There are some other new ideas in the works as well. 😉
There are a handful of ways to get your own copies of Scattered. Here are the ways to get the awesome cool magazine layout version:
- They, of course, are available for sale in the DFP store right here at DarkForestPress.com.
- And from the Dark Forest Press Patreon. Patrons get the zine sent to them either in pdf or physical format as soon as they come out, depending on their subscriptions level.
The zine is also available on Amazon as an ebook. Not as fun, but still an option.
Issue #2 is currently in the works and will be out October 1st, 2025.
